Snowdays are the best!

After shoveling all day yesterday, and basically being trapped at home - I had to something on snowday #2! I decided to make use of my time by continuing on with January's adventure of cross country skiing. This was the first time that I had ever gone out on the trails alone (or ever even!). Normally I take a lesson and then that's it for the season.

Today was the ultimate day for being outside. The sky was a crystal clear blue, the sun was shining brightly, the snow was glistening white and virtually untouched, and the silence was peaceful. The only sound were my skis sliding through the tracks, an occasional honking goose, and depending on where I was - the sound of the highway nearby. I think I fell in love today!

I had such fun being out there. I avoided hills as much as I possibly could. I didn't do so well with them last weekend, and today I wanted to have as much confidence as possible. However, if I ski up a hill usually that means on the other side I have to go down. So there I was at the top of a "hill." This was a nothing of a hill. I'm shaking in my boots wondering if I can just walk down instead. As I'm standing there wondering what to do, I fall. I'm STANDING there, skis aren't moving, and BOOM down I go. Clearly, this isn't going to go well. I sat in the snow contemplating my fate and decided to get up and go for it. I put my skis back in the track and I go down the hill. I got to the bottom and yelled out, "I did it!" I had a huge smile on my face, and anyone going by would have thought I was crazy. But I was proud :)

I spent the rest of the time just gliding through the course and enjoying myself immensely. It wasn't crowded at all. There were other skiers there, but I didn't have to worry about them being in my way or me being in their way. It was a great way to spend the afternoon!

I didn't spend too long there today - just a little over an hour. And I'm exhausted! Between shoveling yesterday and then skiing today, my body feels like dead weight. I plan on going again this weekend, if the weather remains nice. I don't have to worry about any snow melting, that's for sure!
